Earth Day Clean Up Activities APRIL 21 ROCK SPRING PARK
April 16, 2012

Rock Spring Garden Club is pleased to host, with assistance of Marymount University students and expertise from Arlington County Parks and Recreation Division, a clean-up event on Saturday morning, April 21st from 9:30-12:30. We invite neighborhood families to help us pull out invasive plants and bushes that are strangling our beautiful old trees and crowding out healthy plants throughout the park , including along the stream bank. We will gather at the Yorktown Blvd. park entrance and focus on the area along the walkway toward the shaded area of the park where many invasive bushes, ivy and garlic mustard are rampant. We sorely need as many volunteers – even for an hour- because we can accomplish so much at a critical time in the growth cycle of the natural resources we are blessed to have in our neighborhood.
Please wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants and bring garden gloves and any tools (with your names written on them) you may have. We will have extra gloves and some tools for those who may not have them. Light refreshments will be available and we guarantee you’ll have fun meeting neighbors and helping rid the park of unwanted invasive plants that have no natural predators and thus grow unchecked. Children are more than welcome as are dogs – as long as they are leashed (the dogs, not the children..).
If you are unable to join us but would like to contribute to this effort, the garden club would be grateful for donations which will be used to buy plants for a subsequent planting party in May. You may send your contribution to:
