The Wonder of Orchids

Speaker: Arthur Chadwick – Owner, Chadwick and Son Orchids

Working with his father, a longtime orchid hobbyist, Arthur founded the company in 1989. They started with a greenhouse in Powhatan, Virginia and have expanded this venture to eleven greenhouses and a retail store in Richmond. Arthur will show how to bring a bit of the tropics into your home with these exotic flowering plants.  We are thrilled to have Arthur visit with us!

Our business meeting will run 10:00 AM, with our program beginning about 11:00 am, followed by a delicious lunch.  We also have plenty of time for you to check out our ways and means table – lots of goodies, plus floral and garden supplies.  And we never stop learning – check out our Horticulture specimen table and our Monthly Design challenge, judged by accredited NGC flower show judges.

Perspective new members are always welcome. Our program is free and open to the public, but please do RSVP by clicking our contact button above.  Lunch is also available for a nominal donation.  Thanks!

Our January meeting included a very fun and interesting design challenge. Our floral design challenge involved interpreting a piece of art through floral design.  Our members really stepped up to the challenge. Here’s just of few of the designs on display:   photos copyright 2018 by Mary Cottrell

Great January meeting!

We had a great January meeting! Our speaker, Kirsten Conrad, M.S., an Extension Agent with Virginia Cooperative Extension, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Horticulture. Kirsten presented  Every Home, A Habitat: Living With the Birds and Bees: Establishing a Pollinator-Friendly Landscape

Kirsten focused on best practices and resources promoted by Virginia Cooperative Extension that residents can use in a variety of landscaping. Whether you have a container or balcony, a shady woodland paradise, or a sunny hillside or hell-strip, there are many ways, large and small, that gardeners can do their part to keep a healthy, welcoming ecosystem going that will support our birds, bees, and butterflies.

We really appreciate the knowledge and service generously given to our Arlington community by our Master Gardeners through the Virginia Cooperative Extension.
